Hi guys, I have been trying out the free version of waves tracks live with my allen and heath zed R16. Wave tracks is just part of a bigger picture I see they've also got a software mixer about to be released (with 3rd party vst hosting), and the start of this month saw the end of Native pricing - now there's just one license for Soundgrid and native products. When AVB get their standards sorted I think there'll be little room for proprietary formats. What is significant about Soundgrid, that I was unaware of, is that they've promised full AVB compliance (Dante have as well but there seems to be a feeling that they'll struggle to implement it). MADI, Dante, Soundgrid, Ethersound, CobraNet,etc all provide similar functionality the difference is the infrastructure - MADI is an optical and coaxial system, the others use Cat5 and in some cases can run through a router.
MADI is used by a lot of desk manufacturers, but if you want to connect your laptop for recording/virtual soundcheck you'll need a MADI hardware interface, similarly with Dante you'll need a Dante virtual soundcard, with the Waves you've got direct access through your ethernet port.
